Melissa Miller, Howie Sacks & Henry LLP
Melissa Miller is an advocate for the most vulnerable members of our population, the elderly. Being certified in Elder Law, she concentrates on nursing home negligence, long-term care cases and elder abuse. Her practice is also committed to all areas of personal injury litigation, including product liability, hospital negligence, car accidents, slip and falls and long-term disability claims. Melissa is a trusted advisor who supports and guides clients through the legal issues that need to be resolved as they fight to recover. Melissa is an experienced trial advocate and is prepared to take her cases all the way.
Melissa is a member of many professional associations and frequently authors articles for these associations and other organizations, including updates on the law, catastrophic impairment, and important issues that affect the rights of injured victims. Melissa was elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association in 2017.
Galit Liffshiz, GLA Rehab Inc.
Ms. Liffshiz is a qualified occupational therapist, a certified life care planner and a designated capacity assessor. She has worked in psychiatric, neuro-behavioural and physical rehabilitation for many years and has expertise in the assessment and treatment of neurological conditions, traumatic injuries, and cognitive impairments.
She has received certification through the American Board of Forensic Professionals in the 4th and 5th Editions of the AMA guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment and has been performing Catastrophic assessments for several years now. She took the AMA guide 6th edition course as well. She has been qualified and accepted as an expert witness in the courts of Ontario as an Occupational Therapist, CAT assessor and a Life Care Planner.
She is the president of GLA Rehab Inc., a community rehabilitation company, servicing MVA clients. The company provides OT, PT, CM, SW, massage, psychological treatment and rehab Therapy. She is the owner of GLA Assessment, a company that offers Catastrophic Application assessment, Capacity assessments and Future Care Costs.
In her free time, she enjoys painting landscape with oil on canvas and has been exhibiting her art work in Ontario.
Jane Conte, Conte Jaswal
Jane Conte is the founding member of Conte Jaswal Lawyers. She opened the firm with the goal of providing injured persons with professional, experienced, successful and hand-on help. She ensures her clients and their families, are taken care of.
Jane graduated from York University with a B.A., and obtained an LL.B. from the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law. She is a member of the Advocates’ Society, The Canadian Bar Association, The Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers Association, The Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association as well as the Whitby Chamber of Commerce.
Jane has successfully appeared before The Ontario Court of Appeal, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal and Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
Jane’s practice has always focused exclusively on personal injury litigation on behalf of injured persons and their families. She ensures they obtain the results they deserve.
Jane volunteers her time giving back to her community and has sat on the Board of Directors as the Chair of the Brain Injury Society of Toronto (BIST). She was also a Director on the Board of Directors of the Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation. She currently sits on various boards as well, including holding position as a Treasurer. Jane is also very involved in being a big part of the Greek Community of Toronto.
She is completely fluent in Greek and is learning Italian and is the very proud mother of her son, Alix
Catherine Korte, McCague Borlack LLP
Catherine has been practicing in the area of insurance defence litigation since 1995. Her current practice focuses on the defence of statutory accident benefits claims, including acting on behalf of auto insurers in loss transfer and priority disputes between insurers, and tort claims. Her practice includes a focus on privacy law. She has analyzed legislation, case law, policies, studies and current developments in privacy law. She has drafted privacy defence reference materials for clients (including federal and provincial privacy). She defends clients on cyber security breaches across Canada.
She has acted as legislative counsel on behalf of automobile insurers. On behalf of insurers she worked in approaching the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and successfully argued for the Superintendent’s approval of Insurers’ Preferred Provider Networks (PPNs).This permitted insurers across the Province of Ontario to arrange for a claimant to attend groups of insurer selected health care providers to deliver programs of care. Thereafter, as counsel for insurers she successfully worked with the Financial Services Commission to establish best practices for Preferred Provider Networks and to minimize insurers’ exposure to conflicts of interest and unfair and deceptive practice and act allegations.
Catherine is chair of our Automobile Fraud Practice group. She has represented insurers and the Ontario Bar Association in submissions to Justice Cunningham as to the changes to the Dispute Resolution Practice Code. Most recently, she has provided legislative submissions on behalf of the Ontario Bar Association to the Ministry of Finance regarding Bill 171 – Fighting Fraud and Reducing Automobile Insurance Rates Act, 2014. She is further involved on behalf of the Ontario Bar Association in legislative submissions to the Ministry of the Attorney General on proposed changes to the law of joint and several liability in the province of Ontario.
Catherine has appeared on behalf of insurer clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. She also appears regularly before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. She is currently chair of the Government Advisory Committee to the civil law section of the Ontario Bar Association. Catherine serves as counsel to the Toronto Medico-Legal Society.
